Chris Thile, mandolinist, singer, and Grammy Award-winning songwriter, takes the stage at Bourgie Hall for a solo evening that showcases his extraordinary range as a performer. A founding member of both Punch Brothers and Nickel Creek, Thile is celebrated for his ability to transcend genre boundaries with his mandolin.
The programme draws from his two-volume recordings of J.S. Bach's Sonatas and Partitas, works he has reimagined for the mandolin with striking interpretive depth. Alongside the Bach repertoire, Thile will perform his own compositions, weaving together compositional rigour, folk storytelling, and spontaneous improvisation.
Having collaborated with artists as varied as Yo-Yo Ma, Fiona Apple, and Brad Mehldau, Thile brings a rare breadth of musical experience to this intimate solo performance. NPR has described him as a "musical genius that defies genres."
