Scrumpy first performed in the autumn of 1976 — earning money for the very first time — and has been playing ever since. The band takes its name from a sharp cider made in southern England, and their repertoire centres on traditional Irish and Scottish music: reels, jigs, hornpipes, beautiful airs and rousing (if largely incomprehensible) songs, with the occasional Danish tune sneaking in.
The band holds an unofficial Danish record for the number of farewell concerts staged, and with the upcoming shows they are on the verge of reaching 121 such send-offs.
The current line-up features Allan Aasbjerg (guitar, banjo, vocals), Steen Aasbjerg (flutes), Jørgen Hanskov (violin), Lars Kofoed (accordion) and Torben Kure (guitar, cittern, vocals, mandolin).
