Cellist Hayoung Choi takes the stage at the historic Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel in Old Montreal for a recital built around three of Johann Sebastian Bach's six Cello Suites โ Nos. 2, 4, and 5 โ presented as a dialogue across time.
Between each Bach suite, Choi performs newly composed interludes by Sarah Frances Jenkins, a contemporary composer whose musical language is described as resonating with the structures and spirit of Baroque writing. The programme weaves the two composers' voices into a continuous conversation.
The evening is framed around the theme of two women โ Choi and Jenkins โ united by their relationship to Bach and the cello, forging a bridge between the seventeenth century and the present day.
Hayoung Choi has been praised by Le Soir as "a daring cellist with an intense and flamboyant style." This concert is part of the Festival Bach 2026 season in Montreal.
