The Ocean's twelfth studio album, Solaris, continues the dystopian world of Holocene. It imagines an uninhabitable Earth and follows survivors who leave aboard a ship to look for a new home. The record draws on Andrei Tarkovski's film Solaris and on historical explorers such as Magellan and Francis Drake, questioning ambition, power and the price of seeking knowledge.
The band's lineup has been renewed with musicians from several countries. Their atmospheric post-metal is enriched with synthesizers, piano, electronics, trombone and vibraphone. The album was recorded at the Hansa Studios in Berlin.
