Wonderful Joe follows Joe and his loyal dog Mister after they lose their home and face the prospect of being separated. Rather than accept a broken world, Joe insists on seeing it as whole, and together they set off on one last fantastical journey.
Along the way, the pair encounter an unlikely cast of characters — Mother Nature, Santa Claus, Jesus, the Tooth Fairy — as well as a group of unhoused companions who construct theatre from cardboard and memory. The ordinary and the mythical collide throughout in ways both funny and deeply moving.
The piece is performed entirely solo by Ronnie Burkett, one of the world's foremost puppeteers, and is accompanied by an evocative original score composed by John Alcorn. The work blends finely crafted puppetry with uncompromising storytelling to explore resilience, companionship, and the quiet power of imagination.
Performances run Tuesday through Saturday at 20:00, with Sunday and select Saturday matinees at 14:00. The run takes place at Centaur Theatre, 453 Saint-François-Xavier Street, Montréal, QC.
