East Meets West - Chamber Orchestra of the China National Symphony Orchestra (Classical Concert)

To mark the 70th anniversary of the China National Symphony Orchestra, its prestigious chamber ensemble embarks on a Canadian tour, bringing a programme that puts Eastern and Western musical traditions in dialogue. The first half of the concert presents two beloved string repertoire masterworks: the Holberg Suite by Edvard Grieg and the Serenade for Strings in C major by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, showcasing the ensemble's elegance, virtuosity, and artistic sensitivity.

The second half spotlights the richness of Chinese musical heritage through iconic works including The Golden Snake Dance, Butterfly Lovers, and Dance of the Yao People. Also featured is Qipao, a contemporary composition by Yang Fan inspired by the grace and refinement of traditional Chinese culture.

Presented during the Mid-Autumn Festival season, the programme pays poetic tribute to the moon through three evocative pieces: Axi Dances Under the Moon, Clouds Chasing the Moon, and Flowers Blooming Under the Full Moon. These works celebrate universal themes of togetherness, harmony, and sharing across cultures.

The concert runs approximately two hours with an intermission. It is presented by the Canadaโ€“China Culture Development Association and co-presented by the Alliance des artistes NextGen du Canada, with support from the China National Arts Fund.
