Brahms, Mendelssohn et Nouvelles Créations - Élisabeth Pion, Marie-Claire Cardinal & Julien Proulx (Classical Concert)

This concert brings together Romantic masterworks and new Québécois creations under two conductors at Montreal's Maison symphonique. Marie-Claire Cardinal opens the programme with Strauss's sparkling overture to Die Fledermaus, setting a festive and brilliant tone for the afternoon.

In collaboration with the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ), the programme also includes world premieres by two emerging composers, Charles-Vincent Lemelin and Louis-Michel Tougas, showcasing the vitality of contemporary Canadian composition.

Julien Proulx then leads Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor, with pianist Élisabeth Pion in the soloist role, bringing passion, grace, and dramatic intensity to this fiery work.

The second half features Brahms's Symphony No. 4, his final symphony and one of the pinnacles of his orchestral output — a vast, complex, and profoundly expressive work that closes the concert on a powerful and moving note.

The concert runs approximately 2 hours with an intermission. Tickets are priced from $48.99 (taxes and fees included), with a student rate available.
