Mue de peau - Yanik Savoie (Contemporary Dance)

Yanik Savoie's 'Mue de peau' is a 10-minute solo work exploring the growing pains of becoming — shedding old skin, both literally and metaphorically. Set on a stage covered in a plastic track resembling skin, a performer in a white dress draws out memories of gender expression and queerness from early childhood.

Through the physical and psychological effects that social conditioning imposes on bodies, the piece constructs a poetics of disturbance in which dance becomes an act of reclaiming identity and freedom. Classical music accompanies a gradual deconstruction of gendered and dancing bodies.

The work is presented as part of Danses Buissonnières 2026 at Édifice Wilder | Espace Vert in Montreal. Performances take place September 26 (19:00), September 27 (16:00), September 28 (19:00), and September 29 (19:00). An artist discussion follows the September 28 performance.
