Le Palais des Glaces is a fierce, dystopian comedy written by David Paquet. Virginie climbs out of her grave with one wish: to eat an ice cream cone. Cones now cost $275, so she walks through a city where everything is for sale to raise the money. Along the way she meets Émilie, an exhausted mother worn down by endless work shifts, and Émilie's toddler son Léonard, who loves tequila and already understands the power dynamics around him. At the top of the chain, Paul builds his empire one cone at a time.
The play turns inflation into an intimate drama and capitalism into grotesque theatre, setting impunity against defiance. This is Paquet's third collaboration with director Philippe Cyr, who is assisted by Félix-Antoine Gauthier.
The cast features Maxime Genois, Hubert Lemire, Ève Pressault and Dominique Quesnel. The production is a creation of the Centre du Théâtre d'Aujourd'hui, Théâtre du Double signe and Théâtre À tour de rôle, and it is staged in the Salle Michelle-Rossignol.
