Bertolt Brecht's landmark play Life of Galileo comes to the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde in a new production directed by Geoffrey Gaquère, marking his very first staging at the TNM. The play follows Galileo Galilei, a mathematician and physicist whose telescopic discoveries bring him into direct conflict with the Inquisition, placing him under constant surveillance and in mortal danger.
Brecht wrote the play in exile after fleeing Nazi Germany, using the lens of history to examine the collision between intellectual freedom and ideological rigidity — a theme that resonates across centuries. Gilbert Turp provides the French translation.
Guillaume Cyr takes on the title role of Galileo, supported by a rich ensemble cast. Normand Chouinard, returning to the TNM, portrays Pope Urban VIII.
