Albania, Secret Paradise of Europe

Patrick Bureau, an independent filmmaker with over 20 years of worldwide travel experience, presents his latest documentary exploration of Albania — one of Europe's least-known destinations — at Salle Pierre-Mercure in Montreal.

After decades of isolation under the communist dictatorship of Enver Hoxha (1944–1985), Albania opened to the world in the 1990s and has since experienced rapid growth in tourism. Nestled between Greece and Montenegro, this small Balkan country offers a remarkable diversity of landscapes and culture.

The presentation takes audiences through Albania's rugged northern mountains, the turquoise beaches along the Ionian Sea, and traditional towns and villages listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The dynamic capital Tirana also features prominently as a symbol of the country's transformation.

Bureau's approach centres on authentic human connection — building close ties with local communities to offer a vision of Albania that goes beyond clichés and reveals a country at the crossroads of East and West.
