On the first Sunday of the autumn school holidays, Rundetaarn (the Round Tower) in Copenhagen opens its Library Hall to a creative cyanotype workshop suitable for families and individuals of all experience levels. Cyanotype โ also called blueprinting โ is one of photography's earliest techniques, producing striking images in shades of blue through the interaction of light-sensitive iron-based chemicals with sunlight or UV light.
The process is straightforward and hands-on: a light-sensitive solution is brushed onto paper or fabric, natural or found objects (such as plants) are arranged on the surface, the material is exposed to light, and the final image is revealed after rinsing in water. The workshop follows a celestial theme, inviting participants to craft cosmic-inspired compositions.
The session is led by Mai-Britt Amsler, a graphic designer and illustrator from the Design School with teaching experience in screen printing and cyanotype. All materials are provided by the tower, and participants keep the artwork they create.
The workshop runs as a drop-in event from 12:00 to 16:00; no prior booking is required, though a short wait may occur during busy periods. Entry is covered by the standard admission fee, which also includes access to Rundetaarn's current exhibitions and the panoramic view from the top of the tower.
