Award Ceremony for the Photography Competition

The Round Tower presents the festive finale of its photography competition 'Capture the Light at the Round Tower' (Fang lyset i Rundetaarn) on Architecture Day, 5 October 2026. After eight months of competition, photographers of all levels who explored the interplay between light and architecture at Rundetaarn and Trinitatis Church will see the strongest entries recognised as a professional jury selects the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners.

The event opens with a roughly 30-minute jury discussion (held in Danish) in which jury members Klaus Nygaard (Editor-in-Chief of Digital FOTO), Camilla van Deurs (former City Architect and partner at Nordic Office of Architecture), and Kim Hรธltermand (architectural photographer) share their perspectives on photography, light and architecture, and the criteria behind their assessments. The prize winners are then announced and presented.

Visitors can view the nominated photographs displayed along the iconic Spiral Ramp and see how light has shaped participants' perspectives on this historic building. The selected photographs remain on show along the Spiral Ramp from 5 to 9 October 2026, through Culture Night.

Entry is priced at the regular admission fee and includes a glass of wine. Before and after the ceremony, guests can also visit the current exhibition 'Light Echoes' and climb to the top of the tower. On this evening, the Observatory โ€” recently restored โ€” will be open to visitors for the first time since its renovation, from 18:00 to 21:00.

The event is part of Light Year 2026, the Round Tower's programme marking the 350th anniversary of Ole Rรธmer's discovery of the speed of light.
